Because it is thin and flexible. A rigid tile bridges a small dip in the subfloor; a thin vinyl plank follows it exactly, so every ridge and hollow becomes visible in raking light. That is why the subfloor preparation matters more with vinyl than with any other floor type.
A kitchen, usually yes. A bathroom is more difficult — water sits at the perimeter and works into the joints and under the edges over time. If you want a resilient floor in a wet area, the detailing at the edges matters more than the product, and we would talk it through before recommending it.
Glue-down is bonded to the subfloor, so it feels solid and does not move, but it needs a cleaner, flatter, drier base and takes longer. Click vinyl floats and installs faster, but it needs an expansion gap and can feel slightly softer underfoot.
It depends heavily on the wear layer and on traffic. A bedroom floor sees very little wear compared with a hallway. What usually ends a vinyl floor is not wear-through but damage at the edges and joints, so protecting the perimeter and using felt pads under furniture makes a real difference.
