We would not recommend a bathroom. The core is wood-based, and once water sits in a joint the plank swells and does not recover — it has to be replaced. A kitchen is possible if spills are wiped promptly, but if the room sees regular standing water, SPC is a more sensible choice.
Water got into the joint and the core absorbed it. Common sources are a leak under a sink, a washing machine, mopping with too much water, or damp coming up through the subfloor. Before relaying, it is worth working out which — otherwise the new floor does the same thing.
It can be, especially over a hard subfloor, because a floating floor with a hollow void underneath acts a little like a drum. A good underlay reduces this noticeably. If quietness is a priority, vinyl is softer underfoot and quieter than laminate.
Laminate typically costs a little more per square foot than SPC and often looks more like real timber. SPC is more stable in heat and humidity and tolerates moisture far better. For a dry bedroom the choice is aesthetic; for anywhere humid, stability usually wins.
