Neither is better outright. Polycarbonate lets daylight through, which keeps a car porch from feeling dark, but it is noticeably noisier in heavy rain and can discolour with years of UV. Metal sheeting is quieter and more robust but makes the space darker. It is a genuine trade-off, and it depends on the space.
Almost always the flashing detail where the sheet meets the wall. Water running down the wall has to be directed onto the sheet, not behind it. If the top edge was simply sealed with silicone, that seal degrades in the sun within a few years and the leak returns.
It depends on the size, the position and your local authority — some structures within a compound need submission and some do not, and rules vary between councils in the Klang Valley. Check with your local authority before building, particularly for anything substantial or close to a boundary.
That depends on the frame being sized for the span and the fixings going into sound structure. Failures we are called to are almost always undersized sections on a wide span, or fixings into a wall that could not hold them. We size the frame to the span rather than to a default.
