Tile & Tiling

Porcelain Tile Installation in Kuala Lumpur & Selangor

Porcelain is denser and less absorbent than ceramic, which makes it hard-wearing but also less forgiving: it needs a properly prepared bed and full adhesive coverage, or it sounds hollow within a year.

Cost Factors

What affects the cost of Porcelain Tile Installation?

Understanding what drives price helps you compare quotes fairly and prepare useful details for assessment.

Tile size and format

Large-format porcelain needs more handling, more levelling and often two people.

Cutting

Diagonal layouts, borders and lots of pipe or corner cuts add labour.

Substrate condition

A flat, sound base lays quickly; an uneven one needs correcting first.

Room complexity

Many small rooms with doorways take longer per square foot than one open area.

Materials

Common materials for Porcelain Tile Installation

Materials are chosen based on property type, usage and budget. We use standard trade materials suited to Malaysian homes.

Tile adhesive

Selected to suit porcelain and the substrate, applied to full coverage rather than dabs.

Grout and spacers

Joint width is set with spacers and grouted in a colour you choose.

Your own tiles

Tiles are usually supplied by the customer; we lay and finish them.

Our Process

How we carry out Porcelain Tile Installation

01

Check the substrate

We confirm the base is sound and flat enough before any adhesive is mixed.

02

Set out

Layout is planned dry so cuts land in the least visible positions.

03

Lay to full coverage

Adhesive is combed and back-buttered where needed so there are no voids.

04

Grout

Joints are grouted and the surface cleaned down.

05

Check

We tap through the finished floor to confirm there are no hollow spots.

FAQs

Porcelain Tile Installation — Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions customers ask us most about this service.

Why does hollow-sounding tile matter?+

A hollow sound means there is a void under the tile with no adhesive. That tile has nothing supporting it, so a dropped pan or a heavy point load cracks it, and the edges eventually lift. It is the single clearest sign that adhesive coverage was skimped on.

Can you lay porcelain over my existing tiles?+

Sometimes, if the existing tiles are firmly bonded, the floor level can rise, and doors still clear. It saves hacking cost. But if any existing tile is hollow or loose, tiling over it just carries the fault upward, and we would recommend hacking off instead.

Do you supply the tiles?+

Most customers choose and supply their own, because tile selection is personal and prices vary widely. Our rate is for laying. If you would prefer us to source them, we can quote the tiles separately so you can see both figures.

How much extra tile should I buy?+

Allow for cuts and breakage beyond the measured area, and buy it all in one batch. Tile shades vary between production batches, so topping up later often gives a visible difference — and that matters more than the small saving from ordering exactly.
