Both trades are involved, and we coordinate them so you are not managing two contractors. A water heater must be supplied from a properly rated, RCD-protected point — that is a genuine safety requirement in a wet room, not an upsell.
Often yes, if it is correctly rated for the new unit and has RCD protection. We check this before connecting rather than assuming. If the old point is not adequately protected, we will tell you, because a heater on an unprotected circuit in a bathroom is not something we would leave in place.
It depends on how you use hot water. An instant heater is compact and heats on demand, which suits a single shower. A storage unit holds heated water so it copes better with several outlets or back-to-back showers, but it takes more space and weight on the wall.
Usually, but it needs checking first. It requires a water supply route to the position and an adequately protected electrical point, and if a new circuit has to come from the DB, that is quoted as electrical work on top of the installation.
